Mapping Francisco Guerrero: music and contexts (c. 1545 - c. 1850)

The work of Francisco Guerrero was widely disseminated in the Hispanic crowns during the 16th century, reaching other destinations in Europe and remote parts of the African and Asian continents. In many places, some of his works were canonised and continued to be copied, without interruption, until the 19th century, linking with the historicist recovery of the Spanish Renaissance music. In this ambitious project we intend to map Guerrero's musical production in its entirety, in order to be able to quantify and analyse it from this particular perspective. Our purpose is also that it can serve as a model to be applied to other composers, which will allow us to establish comparisons in a rigorous manner, taking into consideration different points of view related not only to the dissemination of his works but also to their contextualised use. We will incorporate all documented works, printed and manuscript, preserved and lost. The user can access the contents of this project through the "Cartographic Projects" tab in the main menu or by using the search engine offered by the Historical Soundscapes platform. We have added the generic tag "mapping Francisco Guerrero" to all the articles incorporated, which has been created as a "type of event" for easy identification. As secondary labels, the following could have been includded, depending on the case:

- Francisco Guerrero ’s manucript works

- Francisco Guerrero ’s printed books

- works in tablature

- windplayer's music book

- psalm

- hymn

- magnificat

- motet

- mass (musical genre)

- secular Spanish works

- title of the work
